Beyond Class
The Freshman College Summer Experience is for students who want to experience the University of Georgia – both in the classroom and beyond academics. The dictionary defines “experience” as “active participation in events or activities, leading to the accumulation of knowledge or skill.” The Freshman College seeks to immerse students in college life at UGA on several different levels – academically, culturally, and socially.

One of the goals of Freshman College is to help you discover the many varied resources available to you at the University of Georgia. During the program you will encounter a variety of opportunities to experience UGA “beyond” the classroom. Shortly after arriving on campus you will sign up for a selection of educational, cultural, and social programs scheduled during Freshman College. Your participation in these programs is required as part of your Freshman College experience and attendance at these programs counts toward your final grade in UNIV 1102 and UNIV 1113. As with your academic requirements, these programs require a time commitment. Since these programs occur in addition to your academic classes this a prime opportunity for you to learn to master the time management skills that are essential for your success at the University of Georgia!

Freshman College programs are scheduled on both weekdays and weekends so your time commitment to activities will not end after your last class on Fridays. Also, one weekend day during the program you will attend a Ropes Course session with other Freshman College students. The Ropes Course includes aspects of team building, individual challenges, and group dynamic activities.
